As TV channels play live the funeral procession of a college student who was felled in Kerala's violent college politics, I can only say the year hasnt started out right for many of us. Omicron has been holding the world in a vice like grip, prompting new travel guidelines and restrictions. Schools have returned to distance learning, and having the children at home means I am playing waitress once again.
Someone -mentioned in an earlier post - from my village neighbourhood died last week and his son had to make a quick trip home from the UAE. A recipient of granny's generosity in times of penury in the 1950s, he had been inconsolable when she passed away.
The second obituary has been that of our ex college principal and Professor of English Dr Francis, a wonderful teacher who taught us TS Eliot's Murder in the Cathedral briefly. Unfortunately, it was the year the college saw an unprecedented students' strike, so he handed over his teaching responsibilities to another prof.
I hope we dont hear more such bad news.
