Happy New Year, folks!
Guess it sounds very cliched, but every year we start with hope and excitement. Resolutions are passe, but a few in the subconscious mind sometimes are fulfilled.
We started the year with fireworks provided by the state at various locations in the country. For us conveniently, it can be seen from our window - a 180 degree view of the Al Majaz waterfront where one of the major Sharjah fireworks happen. A nephew working in the remote Dhaid locality was brought home to share the joy, cakes and ale at midnight. Each of us vied to shoot the fireworks on camera, forgetting to register the scene in our minds. The kids went for a walk along the corniche at 2 am. New Year brunch and the metre-long pizza for dinner completed our menu for the first day of 2022.
This year is a momentous one for us. Ash will complete school and get ready for college. He has to start applying now. Since we have told him to look locally - NYU Abu Dhabi, Birmingham uni, Heriot Watt Uni etc here - instead of Europe as he would've preferred, it shouldnt be too difficult hopefully.
The most imminent plan is a trip to India to see my parents, but when I can is still a question mark with unending exams and rising Covid and Omicron cases. If there is a ban on flights again, it will be difficult.
One other plan is visiting the Expo, which runs from October to March. Though I planned to visit during the Christmas vacation, I had to put off owing to other engagements including our (Mira and me) yoga sessions every other day this month.
Hopefully, the coronavirus will leave us in peace by the end of this year and allow us to plan and execute our dreams.
