That we live in a male-centric world with laws and judgments meant to favour men - though at times there are instances of rules being consciously biased towards women - becomes clear when verdicts as in the Franco case and the Dileep one are out. Though the trials can go to many levels and layers, the system somehow tries to favour the men accused and cover up their deeds by deliberately fudging evidences and silencing witnesses. Money and muscle power reign.
In these instances, it is for the average citizen uninfluenced by the aura around these criminals - in the former, divinity assigned by his position and the latter the celebrity status - to stand with the victim/ survivor. Each little action counts. I remember making it a point to not watch any Dileep movie - despite the rest of the family being great fans of his comedy - or visit his restaurant here. Though I am guilty of patronising the eatery occasionally after his release from prison - the truth is the restaurant dinner gave us the least indigestion at night. V and his cousin vouch that the "Kerala meals" is the best there though I swear by Aaramam.
If I thought I was one of the few in the circles we moved in who took a stand like that, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that V's friend from Abu Dhabi had a similar experience. He had packed food from the restaurant upon a trip to Dubai, but his wife and daughters refused to touch the food he took all the way back home (a two-hour drive) because they didnt want to partake of a molester's offering.
I hope his filmy fate is sealed too. We have enough youngsters and novel stories to keep us entertained and dont need his slapstick comedy anymore.
