Class Innovation

Got to travel in a Toyota Innova yesterday. Quite a palatial vehicle though the back seat is not all that comfortable. The first two rows are good. And with a car DVD player for entertainment, it takes away the monotony and exhaustion of long journeys. With a loo and a makeshift kitchen one could even think of living in it.
Innova and Qualis have gained an upperhand over the ubiquitous Tata Sumo in Kerala. Not only are they better looking and comfy, they offer better mileage and value for money.
My inlaws and a couple of their friends had down to Chennai to visit a cancer-patient friend at Apollo hospitals, whose condition seems to be deteriorating. They came by road - on an Innova - as the trains were full. They had a pretty long journey - starting at 10 am on saturday and reaching here at 4 am the next day - since the driver had not had much sleep the previous days and did not risk driving fast in case he dozed off and lost control.
After a welcome tea and sleep, maid (oh, she is still around) gave us all a breakfast of idli and sambar. Lunch again was a sumptuous affair with Rasam, chicken curry and fish cutlets among other regulars. Ash and Mira's antics prevented us from catching an afternoon nap.
We were at Apollo Specialty Hospital during the visiting hours of 4-7 pm. It was quite an emotional get-together for the patient and his friends. Cancer can be the most deadly disease on earth - a healthy, jovial, gem of a man has been incapacitated so fast. The room was enough to depress visitors, not to talk of patients. A dingy hole with no view - the single window opens to a corridor - but the room rents are exorbitant.
We then proceeded to Spencer plaza and a quick tour of Landmark -I kept back the things I pciked up to buy, put off by the long queues at teh billing counters. Dinner was at a Chettinadu hotel - mutton/chicken biriyani, kotthu paratta, nan and chicken curry. We hit bed only at 12.30. The guests left today morning at 7.30 am after breakfast.
Ash is back to his poor eating habits. I wonder how he can manage to be active without any food inside his belly. After lunch the next meal he took was at the hotel at 10ish. Refused the fillers we got him in between. But kidgrowth.com says that this is normal for toddlers: Appetite is perhaps a shade better than it was a few months ago, but it is still not what most parents (or grandparents) think it should be. "My child will not eat," is a familiar complaint heard at the three year checkup. Remember, feeding problems may arise if parents make their child eat more than the child needs to, or shows too much concern in what the youngster eats.
One good thing is that he has been quite toilet trained. Though I had diapered him he refused to pee in it and insisted on going to the loo twice.
p.s. Ash will turn three in another three months.
