I have no love lost for the Catholic church or its shepherds. But Pope Francis has been an exception, and I have held him in high esteem and close to my heart for his stance on Gaza and other wars across the world, gay rights, religious tolerance etc. As regards the last, we got to hear much about it when he visited the UAE in 2019, and held a mass in the Zayed stadium. But what attracted my attention the most was that he came in a modest Kia Soul car when he could have instead made a grand entry in a luxury car. The visit also led to the creation of the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi where a church, mosque and synagogue graces one common ground.
The Argentinian People's Pope was as much a communist or revolutionary in his public stances. He is a true legend and saintly figure we are lucky to have grown old with.
