M as a hosteller

M is adjusting fine to her new uni and hostel life. The first day's homesickness had made us doubtful, but after a month in the campus, she tells me she doesnt miss Dubai or yearn to come there. She is put up in a brand new 40 floor hostel which has the first 20 floors for male students, another 20 for females and a few gender neutral.
She is housed in a twin-sharing  room with a cot, table and chair and cupboard. Bathrooms and toilets are shared, so she has discovered PeeSafe to sanitise toilet seats. When you live in a community with people from across India and from all socio economic backgrounds, it is not easy as far as hygiene goes.
There is a student dining and a few cafeterias they can choose from. While more than half the kids enjoy financial aid, M is a full paying student who is trying to be penny wise and treating herself to the occasional ice cream.
She is diligently doing her assignments and warming up to her course. Creative writing or English, crochet and spoken Kannada are other subjects she is experimenting right now,
After nagging me to order things for her on Amazon, she in the first month, she ventured out last week taking the uni shuttle on weekends to visit the local supermarket.
Thanks to her local guardian, my cousin, M agreed to cut a cake on her birthday yesterday and managed to invite some 18 people. She is now a young adult, and I am sure we will see a more reassured and independent teen than the one we were used to in Sharjah.
