Attending a Ramadan majlis

Thursday was one of my longest work hours. I had another Suhoor event to attend from 9.30 pm which was graced by the Ruler's daughter, Federal Ministers and other VIPs. I was thrilled to see her but since I was expected to cover her speech, I couldnt enjoy or think of taking a photo. I also had to quote two panellists and sat with the client manager to rework the skeletal draft.

A Filipina waitress got me some desserts to keep me going, and I could go dig into the rest of the buffet only after 1.30 am when they were about to clear the dishes. Workers at the venue - I guess Pak, Banglas and Indians - were then invited to have some food and they pounced on the good food. One guy was seen taking a video on his phone probably to show his relatives back home. they stood around the buffet table and ate like they had never seen before - such fare is not what they get to see normally. Some brought in polythene bags to carry away food while others grabbed the desserts by the dozen and dug into puddings with bare fingers. I guess these are the people who deserve such treats, and the organisers were kind enough to let them.

I left at 2 am with the lady manager who was passing my house luckily. Time to brush up my driving skills and licence I took 5 years ago and never practised as I was home bound. But I have lost all interest in driving now, fear has taken over - fatal accidents here can invite blood money for acquittal.
