Lost and found

Though officially we are in mourning for 3-10 days, with flags at half mast, government offices closed and the FM channels silent, I have a reason to be happy and grateful today. I found a pair of gold ear rings that I had thought was lost or stolen while spring cleaning M's wardrobe. Since she doesnt allow me to touch her stuff (while she happily takes mine without asking including this lost and found pair), I chose to do the cleaning while she was away in school for an exam.

Though I had done some random searches in the 5-6 months it has been missing, I had not found it. And there it was today, in a small jewellery case.

Like the Biblical woman who searched for her coin high and low -- "Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?" -- here I was spending half the morning cleaning up a 15-year-old's messy cupboard.

While the majority of regular use ear rings - though I am lazy to change them often - are 18 carat Tanishq products, this was a gold with diamond stones pair I had bought at Alukkas with money the hubby had gifted from his bonus bounty.

I assumed I had left it in the washroom and a previous cleaning lady had taken or accidentally washed it down the drain.

Happiness is knowing such doubts were wrong and the little inanimate object - how I often wish lost things could give a shout-out and tell me where they are - is safe at home.
