Mira's day out

Day before, Mira had a mini birthday party at Sahara Mall near the Sharjah border - which is a convenient option when one has to take a taxi from Sharjah corniche and the other attendees come from Dubai. Going for a Dubai rendezvous would mean changing two taxis - to avoid the Dh 25 toll when crossing the SHJ- DXB border in a taxi, we usually alight at Sahara, cut across through the mall to the other side, where there is a fence and a small walkway in the sand to reach Dubai roads and waiting taxis - so we decided that Sahara was best considering that house meetings are banned as part of Covid measures.

Of course I had to chaperone Mira to the mall and Ash came along since he was meeting a friend from his old school.

The birthday girl's parents went off shopping elsewhere after the BR cake was cut. The girls shooed me off too, so I had my fill of window shopping at Hema, Splash, Matalan etc. until V came in to pick us up and said he was ravenous for biriyani. So we had a sumptuous dinner at Makani, the only place in the mall that serves proper Indian food. That excludes some Indian namesakes in the mall food court. Ash joined us for a reshmi tikka and chatpata salad, and went for a post-meal stroll to sweat out the excess fat.

The girls had their fill of a one-metre-long pizza and NYF followed by Starbucks frappuccinos. Mira has been a fan of fancy eateries ever since she shifted to a posh Indian school in Grade 8 with snobs for company. Hence insta-worthy photos at Starbucks, NYF and Pizza Hut have been a fad with here until recently. Her present, old company is hopefully helping her to shed some of her snob habits. I'm happy about that as she has lost interest in buying clothes; earlier she scoured shops for clothes and accessories so that she doesn't repeat them to parties. The present school is also infested with rich kids but being a big school with bigger classrooms, there are no personal parties that she gets invited to. And Covid has made face-to-face meetings rarer.

Anyway, the long and short of it is that she had a fun day and she wanted me to blog about it so that she would remember later how much she enjoyed her day. Thank you Sania and Riza for  giving our silly, moody girl a meaningful day.
