Bicycle maid

A novel that influenced me a lot in college was The Citadel by AJ Cronin. It was about a Dr who achieved professional glory because he did quiet philanthropy _ the formula he followed was " don't let your right hand know what your left hand is doing".
I tried it a bit but since I'm such a big yap, I got nowhere.
Here's me yapping again. The maid said she had to wait to buy a cycle as she was in debt after paying for her new visa. In debt to some of her masters. Since a jain family expected her to come home at 830 pm daily to wash their dinner plates and utensils, it was getting a lil tough for her to walk all the way at night. When I told V he suggested we pay her for a second hand cycle.  And she got one immediately. For us it was only the cost of one family dinner at a restaurant. For her, it was a matter between life and struggle.
