A prompt renewal

The passport renewal has happened in a record three days! Looks like things have changed a lot since the last time I applied, which was nearly 10 years ago at Chennai Passport Seva Kendra. The kids' passports were renewed in 2016 too as they had to be done every 5 years until they reached adulthood. Their latest passport is for 10 years.

The ease with which the whole process could be completed is laudable. Though last time we had to submit applications for the children at the Indian Association in the emirate, this time we went through BLS International. Since I wanted a change of address from Chennai to Kerala, we had to approach the consulate in Dubai with a signed affidavit from the husband. Submitted on a Thursday and collection was on Friday morning despite being the weekly off in this part of the world.

The forms to be submitted at BLS were readied by the husband and his company PRO, so we just had to reach the BLS office nearby at the stipulated time. For once, we could feel the sombre mood of the place - no photos or mobiles, no unaccompanied kids etc.

While most of the staff seemed young Malloo girls, we got a kind non-malloo girl to attend on us. Since I have not held a pen or signed in so many years, I became nervous and worried that I would mess up. And mess up I did. The girl pronounced that my signatures didnt match in some places, and I  had to do again. I thoroughly messed it up and did it again, which was not acceptable - only one extra signature could be done. So she asked for my Aadhaar card and luckily V had a soft copy on his phone. After some network delays, I managed to send my Aadhaar and pan card copies for verification.

Submitted on 29th and on 31st Aug, we were informed the passports were on their way. They came today, although police verification regarding my address is not complete. That will be done in due course. I will finally have an address proof in Kerala now.
