Scene 1
Fridays are most chill days. I wake up by 9 or 10 am 😛 while V gets up pretty early most Fridays - ironic for someone who cant leave bed on working days when he has to be up and going. He goes for a walk, calls his sis in Brisbane, and then tunes in to the morning mass from our church. I often join at the fag end of the service, rushing in with a veil to cover my head like a good Orthodox xian. Soon enough, the priest says, "Go in Peace" and I leave happily for a cup of tea and morning scrolls on Whatsapp and Facebook.
The kids dont wake up till the Sunday School starts online at 10:30 am, which I insist Ash attends - that is the only way I can wake him up on a Friday.
So yesterday, when Mira woke me up at 9 a.m. I was flabbergasted. She had even finished her bath and wanted tea (she has stopped making as it gets too cold by the time she finishes the process).
I soon learnt that she had got up to watch the just-released BTS album and join in giving her pop group the maximum views. The last time she got up early on a Friday, after setting up alarm, was when their album Butter was released. Pitaji was amused too when he heard why his dear daughter turned a morning lark.
BTS fans remind me of Pentecosts, fiercely defending their new-found faith and looking for new followers. Let me make you fishers of girls is their motto and they profess to have found self-love and confidence through the lyrics. A charismatic band indeed.
Scene 2
In the afternoon, the two of us watched 3 idiots on Netflix while one man snored on the sofa and the little man shut himself in his room making music and netflixing. The last time I watched the movie was over 7 years ago, and I had left it half way. The second half is pretty stupid, especially where a bunch of engineering students engineer a childbirth successfully, but I forced myself to sit through it this time. Enjoyed the songs, and Aamir in his avatar as a lovable genius. Ever since watching PK, I feel there is something extraterrestrial about him especially his ears that are made to point upwards.
The movie was remade as Nanban in Tamil, and is based on Chetan Bhagat's novel Five point someone.
Scene 3
We, rather V, decided to try Yoko Sizzlers in Al Nahda for dinner. Though it sounds half Japanese, the patrons and fusion food meant that it was more Indo-continental than East Asian. The flavours were mild and gave us oldies no trouble at night - unlike last Friday after parotta beef fry at one of our favorite malloo joints. Followed it up with a late night trip to a mall, which is a matter of habit for the average fun-loving expat. My reason for rushing to IKEA in the premises was to buy a peeler (!!!), thankfully it was closing time and I couldnt pick up many unnecessary things at leisure in the process. For something I could've picked from the supermarket near home, I stood in the queue till 12.30 am to pay the bill as some of the counters were closed and neither was I bold enough to try the self-checkout counters.
Sometimes, common sense plays truant.
